Genero Development Client 5.01.00

The Genero Mobile Development Client serves as a preview tool for applications currently under development within the Genero Mobile ecosystem. This client facilitates testing and visualization by providing an interactive environment to assess app behavior before deployment.

Genero Mobile is a relatively recent addition to the Genero suite, offering developers the ability to create both standalone (offline) and connected (online) business applications for iOS devices, equipped with native graphical user interfaces. Applications developed using Genero Mobile rely on a virtual pcode machine, referred to as the Virtual Machine (VM), to execute program logic efficiently.

The connection process involves entering a valid application URL into the "Connect to Dev server" dialog. The client then establishes a connection via HTTP or HTTPS to a Genero Application Server (GAS), allowing users to preview applications hosted remotely during development.

This communication employs a proprietary, text-based protocol that transmits the Abstract User Interface (AUI) tree structure. The AUI tree is dynamically translated into platform-native GUI components, such as transforming a Window into a UIViewController, an Action into a UIBarButtonItem, a Table into a UITableView, and a ToolBar into a UIToolBar.

While running in development mode on the desktop, the application emits protocol data corresponding to user interactions. These interactions are transmitted back from the GUI client to the desktop environment, updating the AUI tree accordingly. This updated structure is then re-sent to the GUI client for real-time visualization and testing.

It should be noted that a valid Genero license is required to develop applications compatible with Genero Mobile. This ensures compliance with licensing requirements and access to full functionality during the development process.
